Commanding presence on “The Wire,” “John Wick,” and “Lost”
Lance Reddick, the intense, commanding actor who gained attention for his role as a principled policeman on HBO’s crime drama television series “The Wire” has passed away at his home in Los Angeles. He died of natural causes at the age of 60.
Reddick was born and raised in Baltimore, Md., the city where “The Wire” is based. Initially a classical music student with a side interest in physics, he earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Rochester’s Eastman School of Music before focusing on acting and receiving a Master of Fine Arts degree from Yale University.
He then began his trajectory with appearances in “Law and Order,” “New York Undercover,” “Oz,” and other television series.
With the acclaimed career boost on “The Wire,” he worked on multiple platforms: on film, television, as a documentary narrator, and as a voice over artist for advertising commercials, animation, and video games.
Reddick’s wife, Stephanie Reddick, posted the following statement on her husband’s Instagram account:
“Lance was taken from us far too soon. Thank you for all your overwhelming love, support and beautiful stories shared on these platforms over the last day.”
In addition to his wife, Lance Solomon Reddick leaves behind his children Yvonne Nicole Reddick and Christopher Reddick. His internment site is at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
