This past weekend BlackxtheBlock hosted its monthly festival showcasing  Black business and Black excellence. They also featured the cast of the TV show “Grand Crew.”  During the festival, the “Grand Crew” producing team and cast premiered the first episode of its second season to a select few guests and followed that up with a Q&A.

Echo Kellum, who plays Noah Koles spoke on the importance of the show as it pertains to how the Black community is portrayed in the media.

“I see this show as carrying the baton from previous shows like “Martin” and “Living Single,” with nuanced stories that don’t center around the negative experience of Black people,” Kellum said, noting he is thankful for being part of the show. “I feel like it’s rare to have shows like this in this era, I feel like things are getting better, but there’s so much work left to do.”

Aaron Jennings also commented on the show’s impact on showing Black comradery.

“Hopefully our show does that,” he said. “It will allow people to be seen, heard, loved, and hopefully share that joy we exhibit on the show. It’s important because so much is going on in the world for Black men and Black women, that any opportunity you have — a chance to be a light — you have to embrace it.”

Season two of the “Grand Crew” premieres Friday streaming on NBC, Hulu, and Peacock.
