During much of the last century, there was a book developed that was design to help African Americans drive through the South. It was called the “Green Book.” And that book is the premise that the current movie is based on. Celebrated pianist Dr. Don Shirley (played by Mahershala Ali) was about to go on a tour that included a lot of spots that could be considered dangerous for a Black man. So he hired a tough “Italian tough guy” to escort him to his concert dates throughout the South in 1962/ His name was Tony Lo (Viggo Mortensen), a bouncer from the Bronx. The two developed a bond as they confronted racism and segregation on their journey. Believe it or not, the film (in theaters now), offers comedy amid the real life drama. The book can also be found on Amazon and eBay. The movie is expected to receive several Oscar nominations.
