The City of Lancaster, often in conjunction with other local agencies, is continuously seeking ways to improve the quality of life for its residents and stakeholders. As such, local Antelope Valley College (AVC) students are being reminded that they are offered free transportation aboard any Antelope Valley Transit Authority (AVTA) bus. This service is provided via, “Campus Connect,” the College Student Pass Program.
The “Campus Connect” program is an initiative which began last year in joint partnership between AVC, the AVTA, and the Antelope Valley Air Quality Management District (AVAQMD); in an effort to provide consistent and reliable transportation to college students.
The program is being made available to students who are enrolled in six or more units per semester. The college student bus passes are being made available through a simple application process. Once approved, students will receive a special TAP card, which provides them with access to all local AVTA bus routes for a period of 16 weeks. A valid student ID must be presented, as well as tapping the pass on the bus fare box at the time of boarding.
The goal of “Campus Connect” is to enhance class attendance and the academic experience overall, while encouraging the utilization of public transit and fostering environmental stewardship.
Other services provided by the AVTA include the Senior Annual Pass program, which allows Lancaster seniors to continue to ride public transit for free. Seniors, 65 and older, may visit the AVTA at 42210 6th Street West to apply. Commuter and Dial-A-Ride services are also available to Antelope Valley residents, as well as the unincorporated areas of northern Los Angeles County.
