Colombia plane crash kills 71, including soccer team

Outside a stadium in Brazil, fans who thought they’d be cheering for their favorite soccer team came to mourn.

The Avro RJ85 plane was en route Monday night from Santa Cruz, Bolivia, to Medellin when it crashed near Rionegro, Colombia, with 77 people on board, civil aviation officials said, only six survived.

Players and coaches of Brazil’s Chapecoense soccer team as well as multiple journalists were onboard the charter flight covering the rise of the team which was set to play in the first leg of the South American Cup finals Wednesday.

Hundreds fans have gathered at Arena Conda in the team’s hometown of Chapeco, Brazil.

The black boxes have been recovered from the scene and the reason for the crash is still being investigated.
