The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors recently renewed a $20,000 reward for information leading to the gunman who killed an aspiring firefighter in Lancaster in mid-August.
Supervisor Michael Antonovich recommended the reward in hopes of solving what he characterized as a gang-related shooting. Set to expire Dec. 4, the reward will now be available for at least the next 90 days.
“We hope justice will be carried out,” Antonovich told the parents of 22-year-old William Clay Settle, when the reward was first approved in September.
The victim was shot about 1:20 a.m. Aug. 13 on a walkway at an apartment complex at 1710 East Avenue J-4. He died at the scene.
A former all-city tailback at San Fernando High School, Settle was training with the state-run California Conservation Corps and hoped to become a firefighter, according to his parents.
Sallie Rouse said her son had earned his second-class firefightercertification and was looking forward to the next step in his training.
