Black chamber facilitates connections

The California Black Chamber of Commerce Foundation hosts its annual Ron Brown Business and Economic Summit Aug. 9-11 beginning at 8 a.m. at the Doubletree Hotel by Hilton San Diego. The theme is “Building Economic Empowerment.”

Over the course of three days, and through a variety of events, the chamber will give small business owners, government agencies and industry partners an opportunity to network and connect in order to build relationships, encourage partnerships and advocate for contracting success.

The summit consists of a variety of breakfasts, luncheons and dinners with noted business professionals and keynote speakers; workshops on topics including the green economy, and access to capital; an opportunity for small business people to meet face-to-face with potential contractors; a scholarship awards banquet; as well as a youth summit and golf fundraiser.

The youth summit is designed for young adults ages 16-25, and this year focuses on a green business development program that is multi-ethnic and targets students from disadvantaged families. It will provide attendees with training and a high level of hands-on experiences.

The youth segment will also include access to industry leaders, technology, and industry information-all with a focus on the ever-developing green economies in the United States and abroad. The green economy will be defined. Jobs and entrepreneurship opportunities will be examined through guided activities–some group and some individual.

The general summit begins with the golf fundraiser at 7:30 a.m. at River Walk Golf Club and closes with a gala awards dinner from 7-9 p.m honoring leaders in government, small business and local chambers for their achievements in the previous year.

Tickets cost as follows: $150 to $300 for members for the entire summit; non-member tickets are $350 and $400, if purchased after Aug. 2; one-day is $200; spouse/guest is $175 before Aug. 2 and $225 afterwards; students ages 16-25 cost $25, excluding the youth summit, which is free; breakfast only $40; luncheon $60; greening your business, $75; Ron Brown Memorial banquet and gala, $150 before Aug. 2 and $275 after; Confunkshun concert, $50.
