Pastors’ wives throughout Los Angeles and Chicago have joined together to create The First Ladies Health Initiative, and on Sunday, May 20, these women, with the support of Walgreens, will host the inaugural Los Angeles First Ladies Health Day.
The event will feature free health screenings for diabetes, high cholesterol and blood pressure, vision and glaucoma, dental, mammograms, mental health, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C, and bone density.
Additionally, the day will feature CPR training, cooking demonstrations, discussions on healthy eating, education about Alzheimer’s, and other information on health issues affecting the community.
The program, initially launched in Chicago with more than 150 first ladies, is now expanding to Los Angeles, with plans to reach out to other major urban communities.
The First Ladies Health Day in Los Angeles will take place at churches, such as Crenshaw Christian Center and Southern Missionary Baptist Church, among others in the Los Angeles area, Pasadena, Carson, Chino, Pomona and Compton. The programs will be held typically after church services between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. For more information, or to find a participating church, call (312) 470-0270 or visit firstladieshealth.com.
