LOS ANGELES, Calif.–The ball is now in a Los Angeles judge’s court in a lawsuit brought by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar against a trading card company and its CEO.

Superior Court Judge Zaven V. Sinanian said today he wanted more time to consider a defense motion to dismiss the executive from the case. A final status conference will be held tomorrow and trial is scheduled to start Dec. 12.

The former Laker sued Carlsbad-based The Upper Deck Co. Inc. its CEO, Richard McWilliam, in August 2010, claiming they used an image from his UCLA Bruin playing days on a trading card without his permission. Abdul-Jabbar was then known as Lew Alcindor.

Among the trial’s scheduled witnesses are Abdul-Jabbar and another former Bruin center, Bill Walton, who is listed as among those to be called by the defense.
