Celebrating its first full year of music ministry since last having a choir in 1977, First Lutheran Church (FLC) of Inglewood is bringing in religious heavy hitters from all denominations during it’s “Called Into the Light: The Priesthood of All Believers” Concert and Worship Celebration beginning at 4 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 12 at First Lutheran, 600 W. Queen St., Inglewood, CA.
Led by FLC’s music director, Lawrence Hill, the celebration will feature veteran vocalist, the Rev. Della Reese and her Up Church Choir; The New City Parish Gospel Choir led by Mark Coates; and, the Bethel A.M.E. Church Choir with a special message being delivered by their pastor, the Rev. Dr. Lewis E. Logan II.
“Song ministry is a part of the priestly order and should be taken just as seriously as being a preacher,” explained Hill. “Reviving the music ministry at First Lutheran only adds to bringing spirituality to the congregation,” he said.
An ordained minister, the Rev. Della Reese is best known for her vocal prowess and acting skills. She began the “Understanding Principles for Better Living Church” (UP) 25 years ago. Under the direction of renowned singer, Robert “Bob” Henley and musical director, TC Campbell. The UP choir promises to bring elevated inspiration to the musical celebration.
Led by Mark Coates, the New City Parish Choir will bring a message of hope and advocacy for the poor and marginalized communities of Los Angeles, Inglewood and Compton, CA.
Rev. Lewis E. Logan III, senior pastor of Bethel AME Church, will bring Bethel’s Choir, as well as what is anticipated to be an “inspiring and prophetic message,” according to First Lutheran Pastor Kristian Johnson. Since assuming leadership of First Lutheran, Rev. Johnson has more than doubled its membership.
