South Los Angeles physician Dr. Kevin Brown, 37, was arrested at his Los Angeles home Monday morning by Los Angeles Police Department detectives on suspicion of sexually assaulting a number of female patients, including a 15-year-old girl and an undercover LAPD officer.

The assaults allegedly took place at Brown’s office in the Crenshaw Expo Medical Center located at 3631 Crenshaw Blvd. in Los Angeles.
According to detectives, Brown allegedly molested seven patients over a two-year period.
The physician, who is being held on $4-million bail, is also being investigated by the state for “multiple healthcare fraud schemes and overprescription of Oxycodone, but has not been charged in connection with that inquiry.
Prosecutors requested unusually heavy bail after it became known that Brown’s father heads the government of Bermuda and that Brown could attempt to flee there.
Brown’s arrest came after several women contacted authorities and accused Brown of sexually battering or raping them during medical examinations, Deputy Dist. Atty. Ann Marie Wise of the sex crimes division told news sources.
Brown faces 19 felony counts, including a lewd act on a 15-year-old, rape, sexual battery by fraud and sexual exploitation.
Detectives said that the alleged assaults occurred between Nov. 6, 2006, and May 31, 2008. If convicted, Brown could face up to 25 years in state prison.
The investigation of Brown began in June 2007 when an 18-year-old woman reported that she’d been touched inappropriately by Brown during a medical examination. Detectives conducted an undercover operation where a female undercover operator posing as a patient was also inappropriately touched by Dr. Brown during a medical exam.
After the year-long undercover investigation, detectives contacted the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Sex Crime Unit, which issued a $50,000 warrant.
At the time of his arrest Monday, Brown was free on the $50,000 bail for the previous sexual assault arrest on the 18-year-old woman.
State medical fraud investigators have been examining Brown’s role in an alleged healthcare fraud scheme, according to an affidavit filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court. According to the affidavit, the state Department of Justice suspects Brown of over-prescribing pain medication.
Brown was also known for operating a medical disaster relief charity that holds celebrity poker fundraisers at the Playboy Mansion every year.
