R. Kelly acquitted

After less than a day of deliberations by a Chicago jury, Robert Sylvester Kelly, internationally known as the Grammy award-winning artist R. Kelly, dodged a 15-year prison sentence because the panel acquitted the singer on all counts of child pornography.
The jury reached this decision based on the prosecution’s inability to positively identify Kelly, 41, as the person in a pornographic videotape allegedly committing graphic sexual acts with two adolescent girls, one allegedly as young as 13 years old. This verdict ended Kelly’s long journey through the judicial system that began when he was charged six years ago.
Over a seven-day period, the prosecution called 22 witnesses, including several childhood friends of the alleged victim and four of her relatives. All of them identified the now 23-year old as being one of the young ladies in the video. The prosecution’s primary witness was a woman who claimed that she engaged in lascivious acts with both Kelly and the alleged victim simultaneously.
