Sidney, who finished with 32 points and 10 rebounds, scored the final 11 points for his team. He hit two three-point shots and sunk the game winner with two seconds remaining, giving Fairfax a 55-53 victory. Sidney, who is a junior, is the top-rated prospect in the nation for the 2009 class.
Westchesters junior guard Dominique OConnor scored 17 points and senior guard Jarred Dubois scored 16. Eugene Phelps scored 27 points, Justin Hawkins scored 21 points, and Larry Drew Jr. had 11 points and 15 assists.
Fairfax will be defending their City title against top-seeded Taft, who did not have any problem getting by No. 4 Fremont. Taft and Fairfax will face off for the City title on Saturday at the Sports Arena at 8 pm.
In the girls bracket No. 2 Washington was not able to pull a second upset of No. 3 Narbonne.
Narbonne won the game 63-51 behind Reiko Thomas 20 points. They will play against No. 1 seed Chatsworth, who defeated Taft 66-40. The game will be at 6 pm on Saturday at the Sports Arena.
View Parks boys and girls teams will be playing LACESs boys and girls teams in the small schools brackets. The boys game will be played at 3 pm, and the girls at 1 pm.
The Southern Section boys championship games are set for Satuday at the Honda Center in Anaheim.
Top seeded Dominguez is still rolling though the Division I-AA field. They defeated No. 9 JSerra 75-68, and then No. 5 Santa Margarita 58-52 in the semi finals.
Dominguezs junior Jordan Hamilton is leading the way, averaging nearly 30 points per game. Hamilton transferred from Dorsey High School, and has given Dominguez that extra boost that they have needed to go deep into the playoffs.
Santa Margarita made it to the semi finals by blowing out No. 4 Compton 62-35.
Dominguez will face No. 2 Mater Dei in the Championship game at 6:30 pm.
In Division II-AA, No. 2 Gardena Serra lost in the quarter finals to No. 7 Colony 79-68.
No. 2 Pricehas made it to the Division III-AA championship game by defeating No. 6 Oak Park 48-46 in overtime in the quarter finals. They will face Campbell Hall in the title game at 9 am.
In the girls bracket long-time rivals Long Beach Poly and Lynwood met in the Division I-AA semi finals. Leading into the game Poly had not had a close game, and No. 5 Lynwood, who defeated is No. 4 Mater Dei to make it to the semi finals, did not give Poly much of a game either. Poly ran away with the game early, and won 57-32.
Poly has been on a collision course with No. 2 Long Beach Millikan. The two teams were the best in Southern California leading into the playoffs, and they split their season series.
The title game will be on Friday at 6:30 pm at the Long Beach Pyramid.
