Multiple counts of lewd acts on a child

A 25-year-old man employed as a teacher’s aide at a Los Angeles elementary school was charged Monday, May 21, 2012, with a dozen felony counts for allegedly committing lewd acts on a child, the District Attorney’s Office announced.
     
Jorge Luis Dominguez, 25, of Los Angeles is expected to be arraigned after 1:30 p.m. in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.

In Orange County, one is convicted

A teacher at a Wilmington elementary school is being investigated for alleged “inappropriate touching” of a student. The investigation involves a male teacher at George de la Torre Jr. Elementary School, in Wilmington.

The ongoing investigation involves LAPD Juvenile Division detectives and personnel from the Los Angeles Unified School District.

Hamilton High, Los Angeles High on the way to Sacramento

Despite the economic troubles that have stripped academic decathlon coaches in the Los Angeles Unified School District of the small stipend they received for working with their school’s teams, a record 13 squads from the district are heading to the state championships March 16-18 in Sacramento.

Hamilton High School, which finished in eighth place overall with 40,760.9 points, claimed one of the top 10 regular spots, and Los Angeles High School was named one of the wild card teams.

She faces up to 14 years in prison

A Palmdale middle school teacher’s aide pleaded no contest Wednesday to four counts of committing lewd acts on a 13-year-old boy she had been tutoring.

Holly Marie Polson, 35, faces up to 14 years in prison when she is sentenced on March 29 by Lancaster Superior Court Judge Hayden Zacky, according to the district attorney’s office.

Yvette Hollingsworth was recently named chief compliance officer for Wells Fargo & Co. Hollingsworth, who most recently served as managing director and global head of operations compliance and financial crimes compliance & risk management for Barclays Corporate & Investment Bank, will begin her new role on June 1, 2012. Hollingsworth will be based in San Francisco, and will report to Caryl Athanasiu, executive vice president and chief operational risk officer in the corporate risk group. As chief compliance officer, Hollingsworth will be responsible for ensuring that all areas of the company meet compliance management responsibilities and abide by all applicable laws and regulations. Her team will continue to provide independent oversight of business-based compliance management activities.

U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) issued the following statement after the Senate voted to confirm Los Angeles attorney Paul Watford to serve on the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals: “It is great news that the Senate has confirmed Paul Watford, an exceptionally talented attorney, to serve on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. He has a breadth of experience as a former prosecutor and a top appellate litigator and will make an excellent addition to the federal bench. However, I am very disappointed that more of my Republican colleagues did not join us in backing this highly qualified nominee.” When Watford is sworn in, he will be only the second African American serving on the Ninth Circuit.
