The African-American Male Wellness Agency has announced its new national wellness event, Black Men’s Wellness Day, which will take place in Los Angeles on Nov. 2 at the Michelle and Barack Obama Sports Complex at 5001 Obama Blvd.
The event, beginning at 7 a.m., is a re-imagining of The Walk to Save Black Men’s Lives. The agency has long said its mission is about much more than a walk, and now it is putting those words into action. The new Black Men’s Wellness Day will focus on informing men about their health and reducing health disparities among African Americans.
The day will include free health screenings aimed at educating men about their bodies. The event also includes vendors, entertainment, and free family fun.
State Sen. Steven Bradford (35th District) will serve as the honorary chair for this event. Senator Bradford is the current Vice Chair of the California Legislative Black Caucus. He also chairs the Senate Committee on Energy, Utilities, and Communications. Before becoming a State Senator, Bradford served his native Gardena as a City Councilmember before he was elected to the State Assembly.
“We are excited to further our mission of saving Black men’s lives with the new African American Male Wellness Day,” said Kenny Hampton, president of the African-American Male Wellness Agency. “We look forward to returning to Los Angeles and expanding on our work of reducing health disparities in the community.”
The 2024 Los Angeles Black Men’s Wellness Day is open to the public. Participants can register on the day of the event or online at la.aawellness.org.
Established in 2004, the African-American Wellness Agency (AAMWA) increases the life expectancy of African American men by reducing disparities in premature death and chronic diseases. Across the country, The AAMWA leads the conversation in dismantling the imbalances that exist in African American men’s preventative health and well care. The organization embraces an expanded focus into six core areas including health, fatherhood, financial wellness, mental health, mentorship, and research.
