Engaging all faiths

NEW YORK, NY—The Balm In Gilead, one of the country’s pioneering organizations in leading a multi-faith community in the fight against HIV/AIDS, is announcing the 22nd Annual National Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS (originally the Black Church Week of Prayer for the Healing of AIDS) March 6-12, 2011. Part of ancestral heritage

A few weeks ago, we covered demon possession, but from the Christian world view. This time around, we want to look at demon possession from an ancestral and native land world view.

Scholars, Pan-Africanists, and traditional worshippers agree that the Black religious perspective has been influenced by colonialism and White supremacy. When Africans were kidnapped and enslaved in the West, their world view, spiritual traditions, and unique way of connecting with the Creator were stripped, altered, and demonized.

The Ma’ats advocate real love

Valentine’s Day is time when some people spend hundreds, even thousands of dollars, trying to convince another that the fires are still burning hot between them. But at other times of the year that love cools into lackluster interaction and mundane routines.

It is time for a change in this thing we all call love. While society and the mass media no longer seem to appreciate or support the long-lasting commitments of marriage and the traditional family, there is a movement afoot to revive love.

The enemy of mankind

There are those who don’t believe that Satan exists, and in many cases they are the same persons who don’t believe that God exists.

But the scriptural evidence supports the existence of both. The whole of the Old Testament assumes the existence of Satan as much as it assumes the existence of God. The book of Genesis is built upon the reality of Satan working through the serpent to cause the downfall of man through sin. Satan is mentioned many times in the Hebrew text and in the Quran.
