Bishop Blake and Agape Choir to appear

Bishop Charles E. Blake will be one of the featured speakers at the first ever Democratic National Convention Interfaith Gathering planned Aug. 24, beginning at 2 p.m. at the Well’s Fargo Theater inside the Colorado Convention Center in Denver.

Bishop William Lugene Smith, pastor emeritus, of Bethlehem Temple Church (BTC) for 54 years, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 17 at the age of 103.

 Bishop Smith was still proclaiming the gospel at every opportunity. He served in the ministry for 91 years, training and grooming over 40 pastors, including BTC’s current pastor, Dr. Gentry W. Richardson Sr.

The dlw (Don Lee White) Community Chorale will be featured at the First Baptist Church, 760 S. Westmoreland Ave., on Sunday, Aug. 17. The chorale will sing at the 11 a.m. worship service.

 Under the direction of Dr. Don Lee White, founder, they will offer spirituals and music of Negro composers and arrangers. Dr. White is known throughout the nation for his expertise and professionalism. A former professor of music at California State University, Los Angeles, he served as director of music at Grant AME Church for many years.
