Florencia 13 face conviction in U.S. District Court

Los Angeles, CA - Ten members and associates of the Florencia 13 street gang were convicted Monday on a range of federal charges, including drug trafficking, racketeering and attempted murder, according to news sources. Prosecutors told jurors of a widespread criminal enterprise directed by Mexican Mafia members. The gang was known for allegedly shooting African Americans who came into the neighborhoods in which the gang operated and controlled drug distribution in unincorporated areas of south Los Angeles and Huntington Park.

State and local elections on the horizon

Los Angeles, CA - While the historic 2008 presidential elections are now fading to a much treasured memory, many local candidates are heading into the home stretch in a number of races.
Primaries are set for March 3 in the cities of Los Angeles, Carson, Gardena as well as the Los Angeles Unified School District and the Los Angeles Community College District.

Bernard C. Parks

Councilmember Bernard C. Parks joined the L.A. Police Dept. and community at a candlelight vigil for victims of the “Grim Sleeper” serial killer who has been active for over two decades.The vigil was held at the corner of W. Colden Avenue and S. Figueroa Street, the location of a third billboard.The next billboard is scheduled to be located at the intersection of Western Avenue and Century Boulevard on Jan. 19. Working to get others involved in educating young Black men

The Motivated Men of Dorsey High School is a nonprofit organization committed to community collaboration and social responsibility through its efforts to prepare the young men at Dorsey High School to be effective communicators, critical thinkers and life-long learners. As a collaborative of alumni, parents, faculty, staff and community members, the organization’s objective is to foster positive relationships with the young men in an effort to close the achievement gap, increase test scores, and lead them to a successful high school experience.
