Discussion on re-opening health facility

 Riverside, CA -- The Committee on Health Services for the University of California’s (UC) Board of Regents will meet today in Riverside to discuss plans to reopen Martin Luther King Jr. Hospital.

The committee was not expected to make any decisions at the meeting, according to UC spokesman Paul Schwartz, who described the hearing as an “informational session.”

‘Reporting and Interpreting the News: Keeping it Real and Relevant’

 Los Angeles, CA -- The African American Cultural Center (Us) will present a community forum “Reporting and Interpreting the News: Keeping it Real and Relevant,” 3 p.m., Sunday, March 22, 2009 at the African American Cultural Center (Us), 3018 W. 48th St., Los Angeles, 90043. The forum will include a discussion of the role and responsibility of the media by experts in the field who work in some of the most important media outlets in the community on a local and national level.

Employees say conditions intolerable, LAUSD will honor boycott

Workers Monday declared a boycott of the Four Points Sheraton LAX, urging prospective clients to refrain from doing business at the hotel until management negotiates a fair contract. Workers are accusing hotel owner and operator American Property Management Corporation (APMC) of refusing to negotiate in good faith and blocking efforts to improve working conditions.

Working to get others involved in educating young Black men

The Motivated Men of Dorsey High School is a nonprofit organization committed to community collaboration and social responsibility through its efforts to prepare the young men at Dorsey High School to be effective communicators, critical thinkers and life-long learners. As a collaborative of alumni, parents, faculty, staff and community members, the organization’s objective is to foster positive relationships with the young men in an effort to close the achievement gap, increase test scores, and lead them to a successful high school experience.
