Theora Groves Granville mourned

Theora Groves Granville was born on April 17, 1922 in Edwardsville, Kansas. She was baptized at the age of 12 and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She graduated from Edwardsville High School and attended Summer Junior College in Kansas City, Kansas. After moving to Los Angeles, she attended state college, specializing in the financial field.

The Radio Ministry of Second Baptist Church will honor its extended radio congregation

 The Radio Ministry of Second Baptist Church will honor its extended radio congregation on Sunday, Feb. 24, at its 8 and 11 a.m. worship services. Both services will take place in Second Baptist Church’s temporary location “The Living Room,” of the Faithful Central Bible Church, 400 W. Florence Ave. in Inglewood.

Tulloss takes over ministry at Weller Street

Sixty four years ago Weller Street Missionary Baptist Church was in the midst of one of the oldest African American communities in Los Angeles.

Today, however the demographics around the Boyle Heights church have changed tremendously leaving the religious institution, with its approximately 100 active members, a bit adrift. But if Rev. K.W. Tulloss is successful with his rejuvenation efforts, that stagnation will be nothing but a memory.

Police believe shooting is gang related

 Los Angeles, CA. -- Police are seeking two gunmen who are responsible for the shootings of a child in South Los Angeles.

A 7-year-old girl was shot and wounded around 7:20 p.m. Tuesday in the 300 block of West 47th Street while the girl was inside her home with her grandmother and grandfather.

Working to get others involved in educating young Black men

The Motivated Men of Dorsey High School is a nonprofit organization committed to community collaboration and social responsibility through its efforts to prepare the young men at Dorsey High School to be effective communicators, critical thinkers and life-long learners. As a collaborative of alumni, parents, faculty, staff and community members, the organization’s objective is to foster positive relationships with the young men in an effort to close the achievement gap, increase test scores, and lead them to a successful high school experience.
