Off-duty customs agent murdered

Mylus Mondy , 48, was killed March 9 at a Bank of America ATM machine in the 6600 block of La Cienega Boulevard (Westway) in the Ladera Heights Shopping Cener.

Mondy, an off-duty U.S. Customs and Border Protection employee, reportedly walked up to the ATM while a robbery was in progress. He was struck on the head, demanded to turn over his money, and shot when he tried to run away.

Deadline to file to become a delegate nears

Politics has always been a hot topic and like an epidemic sweeping this country it has caused unlikely strangers to interact and engage one another in conversation. The contentious Democratic primary battle has brought out record numbers of voters across the nation.

But this closely matched Democratic primary election is not without its share of controversy. As the Democratic National Committee (DNC) considers how it will handle the Florida and Michigan delegates, many local grassroots organizations are organizing to develop delegates.

President of the California State Conference of the NAACP

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) celebrated its 100th anniversary on Feb. 12, and Alice Huffman, president of the California State Conference of the NAACP, said she is proud of the organization’s long and distinguished legacy of service.

Huffman said the venerable organization continues to forge ahead on timely issues that affect African Americans, whether it’s civil rights, education, or legislation.

Working to get others involved in educating young Black men

The Motivated Men of Dorsey High School is a nonprofit organization committed to community collaboration and social responsibility through its efforts to prepare the young men at Dorsey High School to be effective communicators, critical thinkers and life-long learners. As a collaborative of alumni, parents, faculty, staff and community members, the organization’s objective is to foster positive relationships with the young men in an effort to close the achievement gap, increase test scores, and lead them to a successful high school experience.
