 Lula B. Balton is living her third life.

Today, she is co-founder and chief executive officer of the West Angeles Community Development Corporation, which is one of the ministries of West Angeles Church of God in Christ, and she has been involved in social justice work since 1992. But before that she was a lawyer.

Discussion on re-opening health facility

 Riverside, CA -- The Committee on Health Services for the University of California’s (UC) Board of Regents will meet today in Riverside to discuss plans to reopen Martin Luther King Jr. Hospital.

The committee was not expected to make any decisions at the meeting, according to UC spokesman Paul Schwartz, who described the hearing as an “informational session.”

The forum will include a discussion of the role and responsibility of the media by experts in the field who work in some of the most important media outlets in the community on a local and national level.

Working to get others involved in educating young Black men

The Motivated Men of Dorsey High School is a nonprofit organization committed to community collaboration and social responsibility through its efforts to prepare the young men at Dorsey High School to be effective communicators, critical thinkers and life-long learners. As a collaborative of alumni, parents, faculty, staff and community members, the organization’s objective is to foster positive relationships with the young men in an effort to close the achievement gap, increase test scores, and lead them to a successful high school experience.
