President and CEO-Brotherhood Crusade

Los Angeles, CA -- Charisse Bremond-Weaver is no stranger to blazing trails. But the path she is on right now is one that has special meaning to the Los Angeles executive.

In 2006, the former Utah State basketball star, who has a special talent for building corporate and community partnerships, assumed the leadership mantle of an organization her father created in 1968.

Bremond Weaver is the first woman to lead the Brotherhood Crusade, and in that position, she is making her 21-year history in the community service sector felt.

Economic downturn reshaping state

Los Angeles, CA -- The recession that currently has the nation in a chokehold is different from past economic downturns because its root cause is an inside job.

According to Jed Kolko, an associate director and research fellow with the Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC), the cause of the current economic malaise is the imploding housing market, which in turn tugged the banking and financial systems down the drain.

Founder, CEO-GeM Communications Group

Los Angeles, CA -- It is not often that a person has the opportunity to touch history and make history all in one lifetime. But that is Gwen Moore’s story.

Moore was first elected to public office in 1975, when voters sent her to the Los Angeles Community College District. Then in 1978, she won the right to represent Angelenos in the California Assembly, where she would stay for 16 years.

Executive Director-Community Health Councils

Los Angeles, CA -- If there’s one person who cares about her community, it’s Lark Galloway-Gilliam.

As the executive director of Community Health Councils (CHC), a nonprofit community based health advocacy program, Galloway-Gilliam has emerged as a tireless advocate who exposes health disparities in ethnic communities, including the glaring inequitable access to health care, health care coverage and resources for the uninsured.
