Police search for suspects

Long Beach, CA -- Long Beach police are seeking the public’s help in locating the killers of Garrett Norris, a 27-year-old man who died while reportedly trying to stop thieves from stealing his iPod.

Norris was playing basketball at Orizaba Park at Temple Avenue and Spaulding Street when he observed his personal items being taken by two unknown males. Norris chased the two males into an alley when one of the men shot him in the torso.

Norris later died in a local hospital.

Perry gives a light rail update

As the population of Los Angeles continues to flourish at an accelerated rate, the need for adequate transportation will remain a hot topic.

Councilmember Jan Perry (CD-9), the featured speaker for the Urban Issues Breakfast Forum, addressed the need for a viable public transit system.

R&B artist, son of Eddie, brother of Gerald

Sean Levert, 39, one of the three members of the R&B trio LeVert, died late Sunday night at Lutheran Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio.

Levert fell ill while serving a prison sentence for non-payment of approximately $89,000 in child support. At the time of his illness, he was being held at the Cuyahoga County Jail, while waiting to be transported to state prison to begin serving a 22 month sentence.

Yvonne Brathwaite Burke

Marina Del Rey, CA -- Former Los Angeles County Supervisor Yvonne Brathwaite Burke joined colleague Don Knabe, yesterday, in the renaming of Admiralty Park in Marina del Rey for Burke.

The park, running alongside Admiralty Way, will be known as Yvonne B. Burke Park. Parking is in Lot No. 7, adjacent to 4350 Admiralty Way.

Working to get others involved in educating young Black men

The Motivated Men of Dorsey High School is a nonprofit organization committed to community collaboration and social responsibility through its efforts to prepare the young men at Dorsey High School to be effective communicators, critical thinkers and life-long learners. As a collaborative of alumni, parents, faculty, staff and community members, the organization’s objective is to foster positive relationships with the young men in an effort to close the achievement gap, increase test scores, and lead them to a successful high school experience.
