Measure F

Measure F would amend the city charter to ban the possession, storage, sale and/or use of any fire works within city boundaries. The City Attorney estimates that there should be no fiscal impact on the city.

Students hope for a bumper crop

 Los Angeles, CA -- Washington Preparatory High School (Prep) is filled with many different and unique people.

One group specifically has come together to work on a project to connect the school to environmental, or “green” efforts taking place throughout the community and the nation.
Community Based Instructions (CBI) is a special education class that has been nurturing the Prep’s garden since last year.

Staff Sergeant John W. Marshall receives tribute

For many residents of South Los Angeles, Staff Sergeant First Class John W. Marshall is remembered as a hero.

Marshall, who was a resident of South Los Angeles and a 27-year-veteran of the United States Army, was a devoted husband, father and soldier. Marshall reenlisted in the army at the age of 50 after being notified that the unit he had trained was being deployed to Iraq.

While stationed in Baghdad, Marshall made the ultimate sacrifice when his convoy was ambushed.

Working to get others involved in educating young Black men

The Motivated Men of Dorsey High School is a nonprofit organization committed to community collaboration and social responsibility through its efforts to prepare the young men at Dorsey High School to be effective communicators, critical thinkers and life-long learners. As a collaborative of alumni, parents, faculty, staff and community members, the organization’s objective is to foster positive relationships with the young men in an effort to close the achievement gap, increase test scores, and lead them to a successful high school experience.
