Cold case still haunts South L.A. community

Los Angeles, CA -- Councilmember Bernard C. Parks brought before the Los Angeles City Council, LAPD Detective Dennis Kilcoyne and family members of the victim’s of the “Grim Sleeper” yesterday morning.

“This reward is one of the highest amounts ever offered and we’re doing this so that the public is aware of this very unique case. The hope is that for the sake of the families, that the public might bring additional information forward to the detectives so that this case can be solved.” said Councilmember Parks.

LAWA launches business and job outreach initiative, website

Los Angeles, CA -- Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) has created its Business and Job Resources Center’s (BJRC) new outreach initiative and website, and both are expected to significantly strengthen BJRC’s role as a critically important link between LAWA and the community.

The new website is www.lawa.org/bjrc.

LAWA is the Los Angeles City department that owns and operates Los Angeles International (LAX), LA/Ontario International (ONT) and Van Nuys (VNY) airports.

Congresswoman Maxine Waters fasts in solidarity with people of Darfur

Los Angeles, CA -- Congresswoman Maxine Waters (CA-35) participated in the Darfur Fast for Life Tuesday, consuming water only but no food, to show solidarity with the people of Darfur in Sudan and bring attention to the ongoing genocide there.

Congresswoman Diane E. Watson (D-33) sponsors a free Foreclosure Prevention Forum to discuss the impact of the economic downturn and how to survive this crisis. The forum will be held Saturday, May 31, 1 p.m. at Los Angeles High School, located at 4650 West Olympic Blvd.

Working to get others involved in educating young Black men

The Motivated Men of Dorsey High School is a nonprofit organization committed to community collaboration and social responsibility through its efforts to prepare the young men at Dorsey High School to be effective communicators, critical thinkers and life-long learners. As a collaborative of alumni, parents, faculty, staff and community members, the organization’s objective is to foster positive relationships with the young men in an effort to close the achievement gap, increase test scores, and lead them to a successful high school experience.
