SB 1137 regulates mortgage lenders

The State Assembly Monday passed Senate Bill 1137 (Perata) to reform the home foreclosure process with a bipartisan 55-18 vote.

California’s budget deficit ‘bulk’s up’

California has suffered an additional $2.5 billion blow to its already staggering budget deficit, pushing the official total up to $17 billion. Speculation as to what exactly impacted the budget varies throughout the senate, but Assembly Speaker Karen Bass believes that the collapse in the housing market is definitely one key culprit.

Alarcon introduces motion to include community members in process

Los Angeles City Councilmember Richard Alarcón introduced a motion, Friday, to ensure that that Neighborhood Councils and other community members have the opportunity to learn about proposed gang injunctions, including the scope and boundaries of the injunction, and be given an opportunity to provide feedback.

Agencies preserve Ambassador site

A trio of government agencies have to joined forces to fund and build a park on the site of the former Ambassador Hotel, where Sen. Robert F. Kennedy was fatally shot during the 1968 presidential campaign.

Working to get others involved in educating young Black men

The Motivated Men of Dorsey High School is a nonprofit organization committed to community collaboration and social responsibility through its efforts to prepare the young men at Dorsey High School to be effective communicators, critical thinkers and life-long learners. As a collaborative of alumni, parents, faculty, staff and community members, the organization’s objective is to foster positive relationships with the young men in an effort to close the achievement gap, increase test scores, and lead them to a successful high school experience.
