Proposal to reopen inches forward

The proposal to reopen aggrieved Martin Luther King Jr.-Harbor Hospital with assistance from the University of California is currently being worked on in the Los Angeles County’s Chief Executive Office and will hopefully be complete sometime this week.

The proposal was supposed to be issued last Friday June 13, however county Public Information Officer Judy Hammond said the details were still being worked out.

Six year case ends

After less than a day of deliberations by a Chicago jury, Robert Sylvester Kelly, internationally known as the Grammy award-winning artist R. Kelly, dodged a 15-year prison sentence because the panel acquitted the singer on all counts of child pornography.

Second Baptist Church welcomes brick sponsors

Second Baptist Church of Los Angeles, the city’s oldest African American Baptist Church, is inviting members of the greater Los Angeles community to participate in their Commemorative Brick Patio Project. Participants will be able to sponsor one or more bricks engraved in honor of a special person, living or deceased.

The Commemorative Brick Patio project is part of Second Baptist’s restoration and renovation of the 82-year-old church building, located in the historic Central Avenue District of Los Angeles.

Working to get others involved in educating young Black men

The Motivated Men of Dorsey High School is a nonprofit organization committed to community collaboration and social responsibility through its efforts to prepare the young men at Dorsey High School to be effective communicators, critical thinkers and life-long learners. As a collaborative of alumni, parents, faculty, staff and community members, the organization’s objective is to foster positive relationships with the young men in an effort to close the achievement gap, increase test scores, and lead them to a successful high school experience.
