City of Carson might be in for a smelly summer

Apparently shopping comes with a high price in the City of Carson-a very smelly one. An agreement involving contractor Javier Weckman and the city’s redevelopment agency which was approved by the Carson City Council in 2006 is now being put into action. The arrangement will allow construction crews to turn a former Carson City dump into a shopping center.

Increased airline bag charges do not benefit workers

It is customary for airline travelers to tip skycaps for what some might blindly say a small job, but if you ask most passengers they would tell you that amid the chaotic atmosphere of a typical American Airport, the aid of a skycap is anything but irrelevant. Handling a nations’ worth of bags, weaving wheelchairs of the handicapped through almost ever-present heavy traffic full of seemingly disoriented people scurrying to their terminals, and directing vehicles to almost hidden destinations, are just some of the services skycaps provide to frequent flyers .

Top L.A. lawyer chosen to head nation’s largest organization of women-owned businesses

Cynthia McClain-Hill, Esq., managing partner of Los Angeles-based Strategic Counsel PLC, has been installed as the president of McLean, VA-based National Association of Women Business Owners® (NAWBO®). She will serve in the organization’s top post for 2008-2009. As NAWBO® president, McClain-Hill will represent more than 9,000 association members and serve as chief leadership advocate for nearly 11million women-owned businesses in the U.S.

Five cars collide at Westhaven and La Brea intersection

Los Angeles residents Rico Lashwan Todd, 49, and Terrance Marzette Todd, 37, were killed Friday when a black jaguar, allegedly driven on the wrong side of South La Brea Avenue by German Maximo, 22, collided with the gray Mitsubishi Gallant in which both men inside were passengers.

The two victims died at the scene. The crash also triggered a collision involving three other vehicles.

Working to get others involved in educating young Black men

The Motivated Men of Dorsey High School is a nonprofit organization committed to community collaboration and social responsibility through its efforts to prepare the young men at Dorsey High School to be effective communicators, critical thinkers and life-long learners. As a collaborative of alumni, parents, faculty, staff and community members, the organization’s objective is to foster positive relationships with the young men in an effort to close the achievement gap, increase test scores, and lead them to a successful high school experience.
