Teen clinic director mourned

Brandon Walker, director of the Teen Clinic which was part of T.H.E. Clinic Inc., and which produced the annual Urban Youth Summit at California State University Dominguez Hills, has passed away.

Walker died recently after a double heart and kidney transplant surgery failed.
He was honored by Congresswoman Maxine Waters, State Senator Mark Ridley Thomas, and a host of other elected officials.

Funds to assist transit projects

Metropolitan Transportation Authority has unveiled a plan to raise sales tax a half-cent in effort to raise $40 billion over the next 30 years. The funds would be distributed amongst rail, bus rapid, and highway transit projects.

Metro CEO Roger Snoble says, “The time is right for it. We’re either going to move forward and do something for ourselves, or we’re going to get dragged down in the quagmire of doing nothing.”

Where to report a loose dog, graffiti or illegal dumping? Where to call when in crisis?

Los Angeles County reminds the public it can easily access County services simply by dialing 2-1-1 from a land line or cell phone. 2-1-1 is the County’s assistance and information line. It is the 4-1-1 to county services.

Working to get others involved in educating young Black men

The Motivated Men of Dorsey High School is a nonprofit organization committed to community collaboration and social responsibility through its efforts to prepare the young men at Dorsey High School to be effective communicators, critical thinkers and life-long learners. As a collaborative of alumni, parents, faculty, staff and community members, the organization’s objective is to foster positive relationships with the young men in an effort to close the achievement gap, increase test scores, and lead them to a successful high school experience.
