Americans getting kidnapped in Mexico

Americans visiting border states are becoming the targets of violent Mexican kidnapping operations, according to federal agents.

FBI agents said that the kidnapping cells, described as Mexican cartels, are well-financed, organized and violent. One group does the scouting for victims, another carries out the abduction, a third keeps the victim, and a fourth handles the ransom.

National Latino organization launching local chapters

One of the oldest and longest running national Latino and Mexican American political organizations in the country recently endorsed Illinois Sen. Barak Obama as their candidate for the Democratic Party.

“In preparation for the general election in November, the Mexican American Political Association (MAPA) has launched a campaign called ‘MAPA for Obama’ which will allow people to form chapters of MAPA specifically dedicated to the Obama candidacy,” said Nativo Virgil Lopez, MAPA’s national president.

Price offers Inglewood Mayor support

Urging people to let the legal process run its course, Assemblyman Curren D. Price Jr. offered support and encouragement to embattled Inglewood Mayor Roosevelt Dorn.

Price issued this statement Wednesday. “I am saddened to learn of the allegations made against Mayor Roosevelt Dorn. My thoughts and prayers are with the Mayor and his family during this difficult time.

Working to get others involved in educating young Black men

The Motivated Men of Dorsey High School is a nonprofit organization committed to community collaboration and social responsibility through its efforts to prepare the young men at Dorsey High School to be effective communicators, critical thinkers and life-long learners. As a collaborative of alumni, parents, faculty, staff and community members, the organization’s objective is to foster positive relationships with the young men in an effort to close the achievement gap, increase test scores, and lead them to a successful high school experience.
