Nine candidates on the ballot

Inglewood, CA—The quest to fill the mayor’s seat that began when, incumbent Roosevelt Dorn was forced to retire, is just the latest move in the rough and tumble world of Inglewood politics. And although the election June 8 will determine who could ultimately take over the reins of this 101-year-old city, that won’t stop the domino effect that was unleashed by Dorn’s resignation.

Caucus creates African American involvement plan

During the California Democrats’ State Convention held this weekend at the JW Marriott Hotel in downtown Los Angeles, the African Americans Caucus (AAC) unanimously voted to support Attorney General Jerry Brown for governor, and introduced a plan the leadership believes will help Black residents of the state gain a deep knowledge of each of the government agencies within their communities.

City approved Neo-Nazi rally on City Hall’s south lawn

The city approved neo-Nazi rally on City Hall’s south lawn Saturday was met by a contingent of some 500 counter protesters, that included Answer LA, the Black Riders, the New Black Panthers, the National Lawyers Guild, and a host of groups representing the interests of communists, gays, Hispanics, and a consortium of nameless individuals who donned bandanas over their faces. Police in riot gear cleared a wide berth between the protesters and the Detroit-based American Neo-Nazi Party, numbering 25 to 50 members. They choose L.A.

Working to get others involved in educating young Black men

The Motivated Men of Dorsey High School is a nonprofit organization committed to community collaboration and social responsibility through its efforts to prepare the young men at Dorsey High School to be effective communicators, critical thinkers and life-long learners. As a collaborative of alumni, parents, faculty, staff and community members, the organization’s objective is to foster positive relationships with the young men in an effort to close the achievement gap, increase test scores, and lead them to a successful high school experience.
