SCE and The Gas Company team up to provide services

ROSEMEAD, CA -  Southern California Edison (SCE) and Southern California Gas Company (The Gas Company) have teamed up during the continuing economic crisis to provide help for customers having trouble paying their utility bills.
As soon as customers recognize they may have problems paying their bills, they should contact SCE or The Gas Company to help avoid disconnections and fees that may be required to restore service.

nLenora “Doll” Carter Passes

The Black press lost one of its own recently with the unexpected death of the CEO and publisher of the Houston Forward Times, Lenora “Doll” Carter. She was discovered by her daughter at her Texas residence, after an apparent heart attack. She was 69.
Carter became an iconic figure in the national Black media, after succeeding her late husband Julius Carter, as publisher of the Houston Forward Times in 1971. The paper plays a major role informing Houston’s African-American community about key issues of concern.

A woman’s car is stolen while trying to save a life

Minutes after a fatal car accident, Adrienne Braxton, a 33-year-old nurse’s assistant, was carjacked as she tried to save the accident victim’s life.
The accident happened early one morning recently at the corner of Pico Boulevard and Western Avenue and Braxton was the only person who tried to assist the victim. “It’s just crazy. It’s like nobody wants to help each other anymore,” she said.

Working to get others involved in educating young Black men

The Motivated Men of Dorsey High School is a nonprofit organization committed to community collaboration and social responsibility through its efforts to prepare the young men at Dorsey High School to be effective communicators, critical thinkers and life-long learners. As a collaborative of alumni, parents, faculty, staff and community members, the organization’s objective is to foster positive relationships with the young men in an effort to close the achievement gap, increase test scores, and lead them to a successful high school experience.
