Our Weekly picks

The June 8 election will demand of voters some key decisions. Our Weekly has weighed the pros and cons, and offers the following recommendations. If we do not support a candidate for a contest, it is because we feel there is no one person who distinguishes themselves from the others.

In the all-important judge races, we will offer additional information on our web site on June 5. Additionally, if you want to get more information on the statewide ballot propositions, look at the May 20 editions of Our Weekly. This can be viewed online at www.ourweekly.com.

New stop proposed

After months of wrangling, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and the Exposition Light Rail Authority have come to an agreement to put a station stop at Dorsey High School at Farmdale Avenue.

This new station would allow for increased mobility of local residents and Dorsey High School staff and students, according the Expo authority.

First all-continent holiday

May 25th is one of the most significant of modern holidays for African people globally. Number one, it is universally known as African Liberation Day, and has been since the Organization of African Unity created it in 1963, to represent the relentless thrust towards freedom and self-reliance and march away from colonialism and dependency. The day represents a time of re-dedication of one’s commitment to re-establish Africa as a united, global player on the world stage and to regain the dignity and integrity of being African in the modern world.

New insurance rule proposed

As another election comes upon us, one of its components reinforces the notion that California and the car culture are synonymous. The land that introduced drive-in theaters and restaurants, the freeway, the hot rod, the low-rider, and the motel (motor-hotel), will pay special attention as a measure involving automobile insurance comes up before the voting public.
Given the attachment many have for wheeled transportation, the upcoming ballot measure, Proposition 17, holds particular poignancy for voters.
