Set by transients to keep warm

INGLEWOOD, Calif. — A noninjury fire that appears to have been set by one or more transients to keep warm broke out today at a vacant house in Inglewood, authorities said.

The first firefighters to reach the single story house at 4020 West Century Blvd. at 12:18 a.m. reported it was "fully involved in flames," said Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Andre Gougis.

Firefighters had the flames knocked down in five minutes, he said.

Elevated fire danger

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — The Southland again will bake in dry heat today, creating what the National Weather Service (NWS) called an “elevated fire danger” falling short of red flag conditions.

“A strong upper-level high-pressure system in combination with weak onshore flow near the surface brought record-breaking triple-digit heat to portions of the valleys and foothills on Sunday,” noted an NWS advisory.
