Jackson Limousine's 23rd annual Turkey Dinner Giveaway
LOS ANGELES, Calif.—With Thanksgiving almost here, thousands of people were expected to receive food boxes with all the turkey dinner fixings today at a series of giveaways in the Southland.
In South Los Angeles, the Jackson Limousine Service will hold its 23rd annual Turkey Dinner Giveaway. Thousands of people traditionally line the sidewalks leading to the service’s Slauson Avenue center to receive the turkey dinners.
About 10,000 people are expected to benefit from the giveaway, which is sponsored by the company’s founder E.J. Jackson. Among the celebrities expected to help distribute the boxes are David Dossett (“Operation Repo”), Noah Dahl and Andy Scott Harris (”Bad Teacher”), Britt Griffith (“Ghost Hunters”) and Jasmine Dustin (“Doheny Models”).
Meanwhile, Rose Queen Drew Helen Washington and her Royal Court will be on hand in Arcadia as the Foothill Unity Center provides food boxes to families. About 2,000 food boxes will be distributed by the center at events leading up to Thanksgiving and Christmas.
In El Monte, more than 1,000 families will line up at the Immanuel Episcopal Church’s Our Saviour Center to receive turkeys and Thanksgiving meal fixings.
About 500 turkeys will be given away at Inner-City Games and Hollenbeck Youth Center’s 30th annual turkey giveaway. For the third year in a row, the turkeys were donated by former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who will not be attending the event.
In Montebello, Sen. Ron Calderon, D-Montebello, will hand out more than 600 turkeys at his fifth annual “Operation Gobble” event, benefiting more than 30 charity groups.
Meanwhile in Venice, turkeys purchased by Zsa Zsa Gabor and her husband will be distributed at the Vera Davis McClendon Youth & Family Center, where Gabor served her community service for slapping a Beverly Hills police officer.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — A dozen Los Angeles-area residents — including the state’s second-largest biller for chiropractic services — were taken into custody today in connection with seven criminal cases alleging they cumulatively submitted more than $22 million in false billings to Medicare.

Chris Wright was playing professional basketball in Turkey last year, working toward achieving his lifelong dream of playing in the NBA, when something strange happened at the end of practice.
“I’m running sprints, just normal sprints, and I run and touch the baseline, go back and my foot gives out,” said Wright, now 23.
“I just thought I slipped or something like that. But I noticed my foot started getting numb and it just got progressively worse.”
LOS ANGELES, Calif.—The city’s police, fire and other departments are all in danger of being subjected to hefty budget cuts in response to voters’ rejection of a proposed half-cent sales tax, the president of the City Council said today.
Councilman Herb Wesson said that without the tax, things are “going to get ugly” for the police and other city departments.
“There will be some very hard choices,” he said. “Every department will be on the table. Nothing is sacred.”
LOS ANGELES, Calif.—The fate of a proposed half-cent sales tax to fund public safety and other city services will rest in the hands of Los Angeles voters today, with some city leaders calling it essential to residents’ safety and opponents slamming it as a money grab by a city unable to control its own spending.
