Michelle Obama to attend annual Women's Conference 2010
Long Beach, CA
LONG BEACH - First lady Michelle Obama was added today to the list of speakers who will attend The Women's Conference 2010 in Long Beach organized by California first lady Maria Shriver.
"I am honored to welcome first lady Michelle Obama back to The Women's Conference," Shriver said. "Mrs. Obama and I not only share a commitment to service, women, military families, community health and many other issues, but also share the role of wife and mother, of which she is a stunning example.''
Obama spoke at the 2007 conference, prior to her husband's election. She was joined at that event by the wives of four other presidential candidates—Elizabeth Edwards, Cindy McCain, Ann Romney and Jeri Kehn Thompson.
The panelists all discussed the rigors of the presidential campaign trail, and their efforts to balance motherhood, careers and relationships.
This year's conference is scheduled for Oct. 24-26 at the Long Beach Convention Center.
In addition to Obama, other notables on the speakers list include former first lady Laura Bush, Diane Sawyer, Oprah Winfrey, Robert Redford, Erin Brockovich, Rosario Dawson, Sarah McLachlan, Suze Orman, Jessica Simpson and Brian Wilson.
The event will also feature a discussion with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and gubernatorial candidates Jerry Brown and Meg Whitman, moderated by "Today'' show anchor Matt Lauer.
Black Women for Wellness (BWW), in partnership with the California Family Health Council and L.A. Care Health Plan recently held Respect Conference: Integrity and Inclusion of African Americans in Health Care, a policy briefing and publication release at the California African American Museum.
The conference provided a space to address the historical and contemporary affects of health care systems and laws on African American women.
Recently a reception was held to honor beauty maestro and makeup artist Derrick Rutledge at the very grand, very Hollywood, Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. Dressed in white and looking very debonair, Rutledge faced the lights and flashing cameras with style.
His client roster includes the First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Patti LaBelle, Chaka Khan and the list goes on and on.
