Gunman shooting at cars in Hollywood killed by cops
Suspect was screaming “Kill me ... I’m gonna die!”
HOLLYWOOD, Calif.—Police shot and killed a suspect who was firing at vehicles in Hollywood, and at least one other person was wounded.
Officers were sent to the area of Sunset Boulevard and Vine Street about 10:20 a.m., said Los Angeles Police Officer Cleon Joseph of the Media Relations office. The suspect, who was not immediately identified, died at the scene.
The Los Angeles Fire Department transported one person to a hospital for treatment, a spokesman said.
A witness told City News Service the suspect had been shooting at cars near the busy intersection.
Another witness, Oscar Herrera, told CBS2 that the gunman was walking north in the middle of Vine Street with his gun pointed in the air, and he fired at passing cars.
“I saw a Mercedes making a turn from Sunset to Vine going southbound,” Herrera said. “And he looked at him, and he started shooting at him, hit the car. Then, another car went by here and he shot (at) him too. And another car goes northbound on Vine, and he shot at that one, too.
“So, then he turned around, and was going back, shooting,” Herrera said. “But I guess he ran out of bullets, so he took out his knife and he put the gun in his waist and he walked down there. And that’s when a policeman came this way, near the bank, and he saw him with the knife and the gun (and) he started shooting at him like maybe four or five times.”
Herrera said the man was screaming, “Kill me ... I’m gonna die!”
LOS ANGELES, Calif.—A 17-year-old boy was fatally shot in southwest Los Angeles today, and police arrested one of two suspects believed involved in the crime.
Paramedics sent to Manchester and Western avenues shortly before 8 a.m. picked up the wounded teen but could not save him, authorities said. He was declared dead a hospital, said Los Angeles police Sgt. Tim O'Gorman of the 77th Street Station.
INGLEWOOD, Calif.—A shooting outside an Inglewood liquor store early today left a 22-year-old man dead and a woman hospitalized with several gunshot wounds.
The shooting at Gins Liquor Store near 110th Street and Crenshaw Boulevard was reported at 12:28 a.m., Inglewood police Sgt. James Kirk said.
Shawn Bryant of Hawthorne, his girlfriend and several family members went to the liquor store for meter change, NBC4 reported. They were going to the beach to celebrate a birthday when two men robbed the group.
LOS ANGELES, Calif.—With one alleged suspect in custody, police will continue the search today for a man and a female believed to have been involved in the brutal assault of a San Francisco Giants fan at Dodger Stadium on opening day.
