County honors Chiefs Jones and Williams
Highest ranking African American membes of the L.A. County Sheriff�s Department recognized
Rounding off the last week of Black History Month, Supervisors Yvonne B. Burke and Mike Antonovich honored two of the highest ranking African American members of the Los Angeles County Sheriff�s Department with Distinguished Community Service Awards.
The Tuesday morning event recognized Chief Ronnie M. Williams and Chief Sammy Jones, two friends who both joined the Sheriff�s Department in 1973. Subsequent to their graduation from the Sheriff�s Training Academy, their career paths progressed through the usual collection of jail and patrol station assignments familiar to every ranking member of the Department
Both Williams and Jones are avid golfers and set to retire next month. Their departure next month will mark the conclusion of two extraordinary careers spanning nearly 70 years of service in Los Angeles County law enforcement.
