Applications available online

Los Angeles, CA - Applications are now being accepted for the 10th annual Carl N. and Margaret Karcher Founders’ Scholarship program. Applicants can go online at www.carlsjr.com/promotions to apply - only during the month of January as a tribute to Carl’s Jr. founder, who died on Jan. 11, 2008, at the age of 90.

Sixty high school seniors or graduates up to 21 years old will be chosen to receive a $1,000 scholarship to the two- or four-year college or vocational school of their choice.

Residents pray for the school

Nearly 400 residents, parents, members of clergy, police officers, and community activists gathered at Crenshaw High School recently to participate in “Hands Around Crenshaw High School,” a community call to promote healing and unity.

It is quite natural, when you find an author you really enjoy, to want to own a copy of everything he or she writes.

You remember the first time you read his or her words. The way they sounded in your head. The way they led you on to other thoughts. The way the writing changed your way of thinking or feeling on a new subject. The way the characters seemed like old friends by time you closed the back cover.
