Old passion yields new mission for long-time historian

Dolores Nehemiah has just retired after 20 years as president of the Los Angeles Chapter of the Association for the Study of Afro-American History (ASAAH).

But that does not mean the septuagenarian has slowed down one iota. In fact, she sheepishly and laughingly acknowledges charges that she has not really retired at all, but has merely switched her focus.

What keeps the history lover busy now is her passion—getting books into the hands of young people in the community via a mobile book program called D-Mobile, The Traveling Book Nook.

Education bills give parents and students more information

Youths soliciting funds for trip to Washington D. C.

Pastor Paul Warren had a vision.
“I wanted to take local youths to witness Barack Obama sworn in as the first African American president of the United States,” said Warren.
Strapped for cash, Warren, founder of the nonprofit assistance organization His Promise Disaster Survivor Agency, appealed to several groups for help.
His prayers were answered. Warren’s agency partnered with Scott’s Child Care Center and Signs of Life Inc., another help organization, to take 40 children to witness the inaugural of president-elect Obama in Washington, D. C. on Jan. 20.
