Seats as low as $39

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Virgin America airline began offering flights between Los Angeles International Airport and Las Vegas today, and touted the service with a sale of tickets for as low as $39 each way.

Passengers on the inaugural flight from LAX to Las Vegas were given the red-carpet treatment upon arrival, and airline officials, including company founder Sir Richard Branson and Virgin America CEO David Cush, will host a celebration tonight at The Cosmopolitan hotel/casino on the Las Vegas Strip.

Distressed homes market value increased

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Standard home sales — the kind involving non-distressed properties — rose to a 5-year high last month, and pending home sales climbed nearly 15 percent above the previous month, the California Association of Realtors reported today.

Would make it leading Korean American bank

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Los Angeles-based BBCN Bancorp Inc. and Chicago-based Foster Bankshares Inc. announced a merger deal today that would make BBCN the leading Korean American bank in Chicago and position it to serve the Washington, D.C., market.

“This partnership underscores BBCN’s strategic objective to be the dominant Korean American bank in the markets in which we operate,” said Kevin S. Kim, chairman and chief executive officer of BBCN Bancorp.
