On Paper

Our love can be written, sealed and delivered
I’ll let it slip through my hands, like it was slithered
But I’m a passionate giver; I’ll look for nothing in return
Just your experience on love, I’m a student eager to learn
Hoping that I don’t get burned again and again
It’s just so hard to let go because somehow,
I feel a little pleasure from guilty sin
So where have I been? In the woodworks
And deep within your willows
I’m so caught up in the scent

Everything is You

Your are life, you are every breath
Your are everything that’s right
Even when there is nothing left
You are my galaxy, you are my world
A female version of me, my precious little girl
I want to teach you and raise you in ways that’s correct
Every time I tell you I love you
Those are feelings that connect

You are my smiles, you are my tears
You are my strength that helps me overcome my fears
I don’t have nightmares, because you are my dreams

Unusual Angels

We were meant to be, love each other accordingly
Living life blissfully, out of the ordinary
Kisses so appetizing like whip cream and strawberries
Aphrodisiac tendencies this atmosphere seems to carry
This is how I feel, this is my vision
I beg your pardon, stay in your secret garden is my mission
Your eyes that glisten, something like a Christian
You are my heaven, a shooting star that got me wishin’
With feelings like these, untangled and going different angles

My Precious

(Dedicated to my daughter Kiley)

I thought about you today, just like everyday
You tend to make me smile, without any words to say
Just looking at you and into your beautiful eyes
In my heart is where true love really lies

That is also a special place that you also seem to touch
I never knew that being your daddy would mean so much
And it does, you’re the best part of me
Without you in my life, I don’t know where I would be
Hopefully now you can see, how much love I have for you

I’m That Guy

I’m cool, smooth, and very good looking
I enjoy music, writing poetry, and I love cooking
I’m an average guy in modern times
On a scale of 1-10, I’m definitely a nine

My favorite animals are cats
I don’t drink or smoke because I got it like that
I got to be neat, got to be clean
I’m not a saint, I’m not a thug, I’m somewhere in between

I’m very situated, I don’t like a lot of junk
I’m a man with a lot of heart, I’m far from a punk

Across Black America

Here’s a look at African American people and issues making headlines throughout the country.

Allied Integrated Marketing recently announced it is launching a new African American marketing division, Allied Moxy. The new division will create innovative campaigns that integrate publicity, promotions, digital and grassroots outreach to speak directly to the full diversity of African American consumers. Spearheading Allied Moxy are industry veterans Kim Walters and Gloria Jones. Walters will oversee national strategy from Los Angeles, while Jones will oversee regional/local strategy from Washington, D.C. Walters brings more than a decade of marketing experience working with entertainment companies such as Codeblack Entertainment, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, and A&E Lifetime Television, as well as consumer brands such as KIA and L.A. Gear and awards programs such as NAACP Image Awards and Soul Train Music Awards. Jones has been with Allied for five years running publicity and promotional campaigns for clients, including Universal Pictures, Focus Features and Relativity Media, and previously worked for WBDC-TV in D.C. and MTV Networks’ Nick @ Nite and TV Land.

Representing Los Angeles and Center Theatre Group, Tyler Edwards, a senior at the Orange County High School of the Arts, placed third at the national finals of the fifth annual August Wilson Monologue Competition (AWMC) at Broadway’s August Wilson Theatre in New York City. “I am thrilled . . . I’m so glad that I took it for L.A. the first time we got up . . . that’s what we’re talking about!” said an elated Edwards following the competition. Edwards, an aspiring actor, describes the soaring, lyrical monologues found in the plays by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright August Wilson as “very inspirational,” and said prior to the Los Angeles Regional Finals of the August Wilson competition, “I would love to share a bit of that inspiration with any audience, in hopes that they leave with more appreciation than they walked in with.”
