AV Duck Race open to all

Non-profits, service clubs, schools and agencies serving youth can raise money for their organizations by participating in the fifth annual Antelope Valley Rubber Duck Race Sept. 18 at the Dry Town Watter Park in Palmdale.

The event is presented by the Kiwanis Clubs of the Antelope Valley, and the idea is that organizations become a Duck Buddy Sales team and get people to “adopt” a duck for $5 each. Groups receive $2 for each duck adopted, $2 will go to the presenters, and $1 will help to partially fund the race.

Authorities are looking for at least two shooters

LANCASTER - The fatal shooting of a 14-year-old girl and wounding of six other people at a party in Lancaster may have been gang-related, a sheriff's deputy said.

Dominique Peatry of Lancaster was killed and two other females and four males between the ages of 13 and 26 were shot early Sunday at a party near Nugent Street and Sixth Street East. All of the victims were from the Antelope Valley.

Authorities are looking for at least two shooters and believe the attack may be gang-related, said sheriff's Deputy Lillian Peck.
