Openings in Antelope Valley

LOS ANGELES, Calif.—The county plans to hire dozens of workers to help shore up its troubled Probation Department and meet deadlines imposed by the U.S. Department of Justice.

More than half of 94 newly authorized positions remain open for mental health and healthcare professionals and administrative and support personnel to work in the county’s probation camps.

Pressed by the Board of Supervisors, department heads said they are hoping to identify candidates for most of those jobs within the next 30 days.

Southern style band performance

LANCASTER, Calif.—This weekend the Antelope Valley is in for a musical treat. DRUMLine Live, a 37-member band, complete with musical tricks, dances, beats, and attitude and hailing from Atlanta, Ga., will perform at the Lancaster Performing Arts Center on Oct. 10 at 7 p.m.

Two wounded

LANCASTER, Calif.—A deputy-involved shooting in Lancaster on Friday left two people wounded, one of them in critical condition, authorities said.

The shooting in the 43200 block of 18th Street West occurred about 12:47 p.m. Friday, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

fathers and other members of the community celebrated the inaugural city-wide commitment with cheers

PALMDALE—United Christian Fellowship (UCF) and other local supporters and dignitaries marched around the front lawn of Joshua Tree Elementary School on Saturday morning in the spirit of uniting and empowering fathers across the valley. Although it was a short march, fathers and other members of the community celebrated the inaugural city-wide commitment with cheers, claps, and smiles. Mayor Jim Ledford (at left) showed his support and initiated the first Fatherhood Conference with a proclamation recognizing the efforts of UCF and Project Fatherhood.
