Pregnant women sought to participate by mail

A landmark research project by the National Children’s Study that the Lancaster City Council has thrown its support behind will begin recruiting participants this month. The Council encourages eligible residents to participate.

In November 2010, the Lancaster City Council presented the UCLA-based team with a resolution in support of the National Children’s Study (NCS). It is called the largest, long-term study of environmental influences on children’s health and development ever conducted in the United States.

Giving back to the community

The Antelope Valley is experiencing a different version of itself of late, especially the city of Lancaster. A complete revision of Lancaster Boulevard, new homes sprouting in the dry desert, and new business ventures have attracted many of its new residents.

But what about the residents with criminal backgrounds who know nothing of how to apply for a job, or the families that struggle financially? More importantly, what about the youth that have encountered problems in school?

One of the most precious gifts one can give

Saturday is the Day of Service in Lancaster, a call to action for all Antelope Valley citizens to serve during the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.

“This is an opportunity for our residents to come together, in the spirit of Dr. King’s legacy, to help shape and transform this city through service,” said Mayor Rex Parris last week. He asked residents to roll up their sleeves and work together to tackle tough projects throughout the city.

Appreciation shown to Regina Brooks

LANCASTER, Calif.—For 13 years, Regina Brooks has serviced her community and families through child-care services. Now, after teaching preschool-age children through 10-year-olds a second language and helping families to get back on their feet, thankful parents have taken the time to recognize her relentless passion for children.

Chemina Hanley, who has watched her own children grow up in Brooks’ Family Daycare, says this woman is like no other she has ever met.
