Fatal stabbing

PALMDALE, Calif.—The victim of a fatal stabbing was identified by the coroner’s office as 18-year-old Erwin Velasquez of Palmdale.
Velasquez was stabbed to death last Wednesday in the 38500 block of Larkin Avenue in Palmdale, said Jerry McKibben of the coroner’s office.
Authorities responded to the assault in progress at about 8:15 p.m. a few blocks West of Sierra Highway and found Velasquez suffering from stab wounds, said Lt. Steve Gross of the Palmdale Station.
Velasquez was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead, Gross said.

Leila Fowler’s oldest brother says he isn’t ready to say goodbye.
“I’m not saying goodbye to Leila. I’m saying ‘See you later.’ There are no goodbyes,” Justin Fowler said Tuesday night.
Justin was part of a crowd of hundreds who gathered to remember Leila at an emotional candlelight vigil for the slain Northern California girl.
The 8-year-old girl, known for her bubbly personality, was stabbed to death at her home over the weekend.
Palmdale’s public safety and community relations department will host a Neighborhood Watch Orientation presentation for property owners and residents on Monday, April 8, at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chamber, 38300 Sierra Highway Suite B.
On Saturday, the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Bureau, along with numerous teams, volunteers and city of Lancaster staff will conduct a survey in a specific Lancaster neighborhood with the purpose of identifying local crime and nuisance problems.
Teams will begin the door-to-door survey around 9 a.m. and continue until they have reached out to the nearly 600 homes in the area. The area to be surveyed is 10th Street West to Beech Avenue, and Avenue I to Avenue H-8. The area was identified after analysis of call and crime volume was conducted.
LOS ANGELES, Calif.—Authorities today investigated the fatal stabbing of a man in South Los Angeles.
The crime occurred about 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the 200 block of East Adams Boulevard, said coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter.
The man, in his 20s, died at a hospital, Winter said. Authorities withheld his name, pending notification of his relatives.
No arrests were immediately reported.
An investigation is under way involving a shooting that claimed the life of a 14-year-old girl and left a 12-year-old girl and 21-year-old man wounded in the unincorporated Westmont area adjoining South Los Angeles.
The shooting at 97th Street and Normandie Avenue was reported around 11:15 p.m. Wednesday, said Sgt. R. Conley of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s South Los Angeles Station.
