City shuts down but emergency services continue
Unpaid furloughs begins
PALMDALE, Calif.—Until Monday, Jan. 3, the offices of the city of Palmdale will be shut down, but emergency services will be available to residents during the upcoming furlough days.
Public works crews will be working through the furlough to handle any emergencies that may arise. Emergencies include sewer overflows, roadway/right-of-way hazards including downed tree limbs, downed signs and potholes, or broken sprinkler lines in city parks and landscaped areas. To report emergencies after hours, weekends or on holidays, residents may call (661) 266-3195.
The unpaid furlough will begins at noon today (Dec. 23). City offices that will be closed include administrative and business offices, the Palmdale Playhouse box office, South Antelope Valley Emergency Services (SAVES) and Palmdale City Library. The Library will reopen on Sunday, Jan. 2. at 1 p.m. All other offices will reopen on Jan. 3. The Palmdale Playhouse box office will reopen Monday, Jan 3, at 3 p.m.
Palmdale’s administrative and business offices will be closed from Friday through Monday, Jan. 2, for a cost-saving unpaid furlough, but emergency and maintenance services will still be available to residents.
City offices that will be closed beside administrative and business offices include the Palmdale Playhouse box office, South Antelope Valley Emergency Services (SAVES) and Palmdale City Library.
PALMDALE, Calif.—Get your walking shoes on because the city of Palmdale and Keller Williams Realty of the Antelope Valley are recruiting residents for a charity 5K Walk Saturday to raise funds for local charities. The event is wrapping up the city’s RED (Renew, Energize, Donate) Day activities, which took place throughout the month of May.
On May 14th, AV letter carriers’ appointed rounds will include collecting food donations for the Stamp Out Hunger food drive. Campbell Soup is partnering with the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) to help the drive.
The city of Palmdale, the Antelope Valley Mall and the Westside Union School District will celebrate Red Day 2012 festivities with a blood drive and food drive today, May 10, at Keller Williams, located at 1401 West Rancho Vista Blvd.
The blood drive will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Blood and food donors will receive an opportunity ticket to be eligible to win prizes. Palmdale Mayor Jim Ledford will be the featured guest speaker. People are encouraged to drop off their non-perishable food items at Keller Williams between 8:30 am and 5:30 p.m.
Palmdale’s South Antelope Valley Emergency Services (SAVES) food and shelter program is celebrating the city’s 50th anniversary by launching its “50,000 Pounds @ 50” campaign.
“We’re partnering with organizations and residents in our community to help us raise 50,000 pounds of food this year to help us assist families who need our services,” said SAVES Coordinator Patricia Morales.
